Over 450 people die in crashes on the roads of the nine-county Delaware Valley in an average year. Over 50,000 people are injured in approximately 90,000 crashes. The 2009 Safety Action Plan: Improving Transportation Safety in the Delaware Valley (Publication Number 09032) includes a methodology to define key safety emphasis areas, a range of strategies for each of the seven emphasis areas, and a focused implementation table to reduce the number of fatalities. The report was developed with guidance from the multi-disciplinary Regional Safety Task Force. This set of seven cards summarizes the seven emphasis areas in the 2009 Safety Action Plan. The cards provide a brief definition of each emphasis area, a chart detailing the number and percentage of fatalities for which the emphasis area was a contributing factor in each county, recommended strategies to address each emphasis area, and a sample of safety partners working on the issue.
